DSC CA Dedicates 2023 National Week of Action to Black Love!
OUR LOVE WILL END THE SCHOOL TO PRISON PIPELINE
Dignity in Schools Campaign California (DSC CA) is a multiracial formation informed by Black liberation politics and Black organizing traditions. As an alliance, we have centered Black organizing efforts as fundamental and necessary to our collective movement building efforts to end the school to prison pipeline. DSC CA has worked to break isolation and create peer spaces that support Black led campaigns to remove police from schools in the Inland Empire, Central Valley, Seaside and Oakland. DSC CA also convenes the Black Love & Liberation working table, a Black-led formation of nine DSC CA member organizations and fifteen members, who have been mapping and documenting Black migration stories and exploring the connections to school pushout, community displacement and gentrification. Together this group is beginning to explore the Black organizing landscape in those communities and what role DSC CA can have in supporting their organizing infrastructure. Dignity In Schools Campaign California (DSC CA) is honored to dedicate the 2023 National Week of Action to Black Love & Liberation.
BLACK LOVE & LIBERATION SOLIDARITY
During a DSC CA Statewide Convening in 2017, members discussed the impact of rapid community displacement on Black organizing and the increased criminalization inflicted on students in places Black folx were moving to. In response, DSC CA organizations and Black organizers committed to participating in a working table to address the need to better understand Black migration and Black organizing, vital pieces in our police free school movement. This space is DSC CA Black Love and Liberation. Read More

Reimagining the School System through a Community Lens
Description: During BHC’s Annual Ciclovia Event, an event was created to connect and bridge residents from across Salinas to promote Health and foster a sense of community. BHC will hold an activity booth to learn and listen from the community about issues within the school system and how it impacts families. The stories shared through various media (poetry, letters, drawings) will serve as a foundation to understand the challenges families are facing to later come together as a community and collectively identify areas of advocacy for improving the school system to work together with the school districts and dismantle the School to Prison Pipeline.
